Transbatur: A Unique Office Design Inspired by Transportation

Creating an Ambiance that Reflects Corporate Identity

The Transbatur office project, designed by Serhan Bayik, is a 500 sqm space located in Istanbul, Turkey. The office was specifically designed for an international logistics company that specializes in road transportation services. The main objective of this project was to create an interior ambiance that completely aligns with the company's corporate identity. By integrating the interior design with the company's fields of business, Bayik successfully achieved a unique and cohesive space that reflects the essence of the logistics industry.

Bayik drew inspiration from transportation items such as containers and roads to create the overall concept of the project. The walls of the office were covered with trapezoid metal sheets, resembling the structure of containers. The doors in the office were also designed to mimic the doors of a container, adding a touch of visual reality. To further enhance the transportation theme, the floor was designed to resemble a road, seamlessly connecting the space with the company's corporate identity. Additionally, mirrors were strategically placed at the ends of the entrance hall's corridors, creating an illusion of depth and doubling the visual impact of the space. Another notable feature of the design is the transparent yellow glazing partition, which not only adds visual depth but also serves as shelving support for displaying truck models.

What sets the Transbatur office design apart is its successful integration of container materials and road ambiance into the overall space. This unique combination creates a strong sense of belonging and identity for the company. Bayik's attention to detail and focus on creating a cohesive environment are the key strengths of this design.

The realization of the design involved the use of materials directly related to transportation items. Trapezoid metal sheets were used as wall partition coverings, while the doors were custom-made to resemble container doors. The curvy shelves in the entrance hall were made of transparent yellow glass, adding a touch of elegance to the space.

During the design and construction phases, Bayik faced several challenges. The length of the container panels had to be adjusted due to the curvilinear forms on the walls, which also affected the doors. Extensive 3D modeling was done to determine the proper joint connections between the doors and end panels of the walls. Additionally, precise coordination was required for the glass partition between the corridor and open office, as it also supported the shelves. The coordination of lighting, ventilation, fire security, and sound systems had to be meticulously planned to fit within the border of the road pattern on the floor and ceiling.

The Transbatur office design successfully creates an interactive experience for both office personnel and visitors. The container walls and road pattern floor immerse users in the world of logistics, allowing them to feel the company's corporate identity. The use of real container doors for two rooms adds a tangible connection to the transportation industry. The wall-to-wall mirrors at the ends of the corridors enhance the visual interaction and create a sense of spaciousness.

This project was completed in 2017 in Istanbul, Turkey. Serhan Bayik's research focused on creating a seamless integration between the interior design and the company's corporate identity. By exploring various transportation-related elements such as trucks, roads, containers, and the interior ambiance of trucks, Bayik selected the most relevant items that reflected the company's field of business. Custom-made trapezoid surfaces and container doors were produced to ensure the design's authenticity.

The Transbatur office design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2019 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Transbatur office design stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
